Shydog Walk Cycle by GreekCeltic Shydog Walk Cycle by GreekCeltic
I couldn't find a category for animation that wasn't flash, haha. This was done in photoshop CS5.

I don't animate. I don't have the patience or desire for it, and I'm not really sure what got this started.

Yeeeeah.. :I Ignore the markings. I know they're not supposed to move like that. The body isn't fluid like I would have wanted, but for whatever reason I didn't spend as much time mapping out the movement of the entire body as I should have. This really isn't how Shydog moves in my head.
Still a thing though!

I have no intention of working on this anymore, XD it was just a pass time for the night.

For someone who doesn't have a desire for animation, this is very well done.

uhm... it would have worked better without the striped... it throughs the animation off a bit... also a few more frames would have made it waaaay more fluid ... and i suggest you darken down the legs in the back cause someone can have difficulties to differ them while watching being coloured in nearly the same saturation

either way its a great attempt on animation considering its so hard to do

Oh my dear goshhhh, this is so amazing. I love how fluid this is!
Also, I'm going to say that although all of your characters are really awesome (especially Gethin with his awesome claws), Shydog's got such a fantastic design. I've never been able to create a striped character that doesn't look ridiculous, but you pull it off so well with Shydog!

Very nice. For a pastime for the night, this is actually pretty darn good. The stripes along her tail could use a little more work (in terms of positioning, they move around a lot when she moves ;P ). Since you're not going to fiddle it any longer, I think it's best just to leave it at that. I also like how you included the Cat's Eye along her quills in the animation. Great touch.

Now, go for an animation transformation sequence from Cara to Shydog!! (Lol, I kid, I kid) That would just be a bugger to draw, for sure.

yaaaay walk cycles, despite being a common thing, they are always really interesting for me.Although is it just me or does the right hind foot only touch the ground for one frame and then float in the rest? I don't know, it could just be me hahaha. xD
Anyway, I just thought I'd point it out! But this is really great!

Rrrg, now you got me thinking. Seems like it would be fun and challenging to animate Shydog.... I'd like to try it sometime :)

I really like seeing her pink paw-pads when she lifts her feet, they bring much joy and giggles for odd reasons. The way her tail stripes move with the walk is kind hypnotising XD

It'd be cool to be able to animate, but when I've tried, I usually give up a ways in. X3

Technically it should be a trot cycle rather than a walk... :P
It looks absolutely fantastic though, I really ought to get down to doing something similar...

How do you get PS to animate? I have been trying to figure that out for a few days now. :/ I want to take a crack at animation for sure. so if you could just lend me a small hand to get started I would love that. ; u ;

Oh I figured it out. You can open Window > Animation. And you can add frames there C: I hope that helped.

I've never looked it up on youtube since I don't animate. When I would use ImageReady in the past, you would need to have multiple image that you import as frames. I'm pretty sure you can just add frames in that window. When you press play, it will cycle through the frames. You can select how long the Delay is (in seconds) and how many times you want it to loop (or not). It's a relatively simple and limited process. I prefer to animate with flash.

Ok. I have flash as well. But it is intimidating to me. I just need some advice on how to work it.

To be honest, flash is intimidating to me too, so I don't use it for much else other than lining up an animation. I typically draw all the frames for my animation as layer in one PSD file. Then I save them all as individual JPEGs in their own folder (numbered 1, 2, 3, etc) and import them as frames to flash (which you can do under the file menu). Then I just set it to continuous loop. You can also play with the framerate. I usually do 12-16 fps. That's all I've done with flash, haha. I'm scared of it.

Wow, that seems like a lot of work. But I guess I can still try it out. :) My school doesn't have a class for animation, so i have to learn these things on my own. Now that I know that I should start with PSD files I can at least give it a shot :) Thank you so much for your help!

It depends on which version of Photoshop you use. Photoshop used to come bundled with a program called Adobe ImageReady, which was used for animating. As of the release of Photoshop CS3, the animation interface was merged into Photoshop and the program ImageReady was discontinued. So, if you have a version of Photoshop CS2 or older, you will have to search your computer for a program called ImageReady to start animating C: If you have Photoshop CS3 or higher, you can animate in Photoshop.

I know that didn't much help your original inquiry "How do you get PS to animate?", but I hope I helped you find out if you can do it in PS or ImageReady.

For "just passing time," this is certainly great. Yes, there are a few problems with the fluidity, but nothing too major. Overall it's fantastic that you produced something pretty accurate without having a background in animation - I certainly envy your skills!

hmmm... it does look a little stiff yes.
you've tried to give it a bit of follow through but its still not enough I think.
definetly should have spent more time on planning it, especially since shydog is a complex animal (build wise).
for something like this I'd probably spend about a week planning the walking pattern and the like.
still a good work, : P even for someone who doesnt have patience for animation

Guess a few more frames ( a little slower),
head movement adjusted to go up and down with both front paws
(fixes the stumbling look) and it would work out just fine :)
