Yeah, I’m aware that someone is copying my art pretty hard. I'd just like it to be known I'm not associated with it or okay with it. I don't mind when someone references my art to learn to draw noses or takes some inspiration. That’s how we learn and there’s nothing wrong with it. The situation I’m referencing is significant and continuous, and goes to an extreme most people never would. I've messaged them about it and they're blocked. No witch hunts, that's not what I'm here for. It's just become clear me that I can't ignore it.

**I need to add that I've already sought advice from more experienced artists on how to deal with this. I appreciate it but no further advice is really needed.

The N/F/T theft is turning into a daily chore to report, so I stored all art I could find that included characters that aren't mine (except for one or two people). To my knowledge none of that art has been reposted.

The rest I'm undecided about.

Answering a question I got today- Edit: This barely answers the question I got. I went off on a tangent. Sorry about that.

I did take art classes as a kid. I was lucky enough to have a private tutor, and I am very glad I had that experience. I appreciate the man who spent that time with me and gave me confidence. Without him I don't know if I would have enjoyed art as much as I have. He will always be one of my favorite people and I wish I had told him that when he was alive.

He taught me the basics and some tips and tricks of traditional media, but the most influential thing he did for me was put me in a mindset where I would be willing to take constructive criticism from other people. I haven't had college classes. I would love to take them, I think I would benefit a lot. But most of what I apply to art I learned from books, admiring art that I enjoy (like comic books) and being around other artists. MOSTLY THE LAST THING. Being around other artists is without comparison. You can learn so much just from sharing space with other creators. So that would be my suggestion. Be open to feedback. Look at every art book you pass, even if the style doesn't agree with you. A lot of them still have good tips that other books might not have. It's like talking to a real person and picking their brain for what they know. I want to be clear that not all feedback is good or useful. When someone says your art is bad or they don't like it, that's not constructive feedback. Not everyone can offer a solution when they see something 'off' about your work, but you generally want thoughtful feedback that offers a solution or gives you a direction to go. If I see your art and I say the arm is ugly, that's not helpful. If I say the arm looks a little too long, that gives you something to investigate and work on. It should still be written in a civil way.

edit: this is where I tangented It is okay to struggle for three hours drawing a nose or a knee just to cover it with something else. You put in the time trying, it's okay to just enjoy the good part of your art and move on to the next thing because you still spent time trying to learn it and that will benefit you later. Draw from life. Draw from pictures. Don't overthink it, just doodle some stuff you see. Pull up google and draw five hands. You won't feel like you learned anything, but you're still filing information away that often comes back to you later. Finally, let yourself be proud of something you made before you ask for critique. If you're really proud of something it's okay to sit on it for a few months and ask for corrections later. You need to give yourself time to like some of your work.

Just gonna... yeah. I haven't gotten any yet but I don't even keep up with DA notes. I will never respond to a deviantart live chat and have them muted. It's nothing personal and I enjoy chatting with people as a rule, but live chat on a setting like this isn't for me. Edit: I don't care that it is exists. Live chat is not for me on most platforms as a personal preference and if I can't disable it I make a note of my habits so no one feels personally ignored if they send me a message and don't get one back.

I thought I had expressed this in my last journal, but looking at the comments I'm not sure.

I think the new skin is fine. There's some stuff I'd change (like the padding on status messages) and there's still some stuff I have to get used to- but by and large, yeah, I'm fine with it. I've been coasting on the green theme for a while but I'm starting to dig the black theme a little more now that I've had time to adjust/get acquainted with where things are.

I like the simplified upload categories a LOT.
