More About Herman

Kind of a boring upload. I don't think I talked much on his sheet about how he works. I scribbled some thoughts down tonight. 

His yarn is pretty strong, but I think I've covered that already. The yarn is the part of him that’s alive. His puppet is just a vessel that lets him pretend to be human. He doesn’t like to break the illusion, so he rarely comes out. As Herman sees things, his puppet IS him. 

Quick explanation of how Herman’s face moves as freely as it does. The first thing you should know is that it’s enchanted wood. His face is physically manipulated by him, like your muscles manipulate yours! His are just strung up a little different. His expressions are genuine and reflexive. He can’t always hide what he’s feeling, just like you can’t always hide what you’re feeling.

It’s simplest to just forget he’s full of yarn and accept that his face can be as pliable as a person’s when he wants it to be, and as expressive when he doesn't.

His face is really only manipulable by him, though. The fact that his nose in the top panel is being booped is only because he’s humoring the person doing the booping. He can’t concave it, he has limits. He also likes to appear as human as possible, so concaving would be kind of ‘eh’.

I'll probably move this to scraps later but it makes a useful addition to his Hetherev ref sheet.
